DSBP is the coordinator for the Consortium Partner for International Business (PIB) Urban Challenge – Water.
The consortium includes 3 research institutes: Insitute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS), Deltares and Wageningen University (WUR). And 3 companies, Royal Eijkelkamp Soil & Water, Hanging Water Tank and Nautilus Eco -solutions. The consortium is a program supported by Dutch governments, RVO and Dutch Embassy and Consulate General in China.
Blue and Green infrastructures should be the guiding thread that connects all challenges we have mentioned before: Flooding, drought, air pollution, noise, soil pollution, and decrease of bio-diversity. Our consortium would like to propose a joint pilot project where Chinese cities can greatly benefit from. The Living Lab that we propose is based on the Sponge Infrastructure Tool box made by the Dutch water institute Deltares.
There are many ways to “capture” and re-use water. It can be captured on the ground – in a basin, that can function as a playground in dry periods, or in a recreation green area which can be flooded or just a green space. The water can also be captured on rooftops. All different options are based on the local social and economic circumstances, environment, space limitation, and so on.
The combination of our Dutch experts will be very happy to look into all these options and find the best solutions for Hebei province.
